"Pique Step" for Wind Quintet
|
Frustration is released in a multitude of ways. One way is through dance. Not pretty dancing, but some combination of movements that makes your body release any tension it may be building up. And through this process there’s this slow sense of release that happens that brings our minds back to a nice centered and balanced area. This piece travels through various rhythmic motions and harmonic dissonance, all to slowly dispatch and turn into a more cheerful dance that feels safe and familiar.

"Afterward" for String Quartet
AFTERWARD tells the story of falling and getting back up again. I envisioned for some reason a skateboarder while writing this piece, but the story of how they consistently fall when trying new tricks, but they always get back up and go at it again. I used this to create the story of inner and outer monologues someone might go through while trying to accomplish something, but never seem to get it right. Of course with enough dedication and the right mindset, almost anything can be accomplished, no matter how many attempts it may take.
